By Ernest Cline
Days after Oasis founder James Halliday’s contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything. Hidden within Halliday’s vault, waiting for his heir to find, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the Oasis a thousand times more wondrous, and addictive, than even Wade dreamed possible. With it comes a new riddle and a new quest. A last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize. And an unexpected, impossibly powerful, and dangerous new rival awaits, one who will kill millions to get what he wants. Wade’s life and the future of the Oasis are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance.
I just finished reading the book, and i must admit, it is rare for an author, to totally ruin his own creation to this big of a degree as Ernest Cline has managed to do here.
The first book
Ready Player One, both book and movie, is one of my all time favorites, likeable characters, amazing story and plot, and soo cool scenes in Oasis.
The Sequel
But in this sequel he has turned the loving Haliday character into a broken man, that enabled a rogue AI, with much of his own memories to exists, and wreck havoc to all of the Oasis and half of the world.
And if that wasn’t enough, the loving character which seemed to good hearted, turned out to become an idiot after he got alot of money, and the friendships and love shared with the High Five, is looong gone, and no where to be found.
This seem like a badly made fanfic, that has no soul of what the first fantastic book represented. Friendship, love, and overcoming corporation and greed.
I was genuinely looking forward to this book, but it has been badly put together.
It seems that the author wished to bank on the popularity on the first book, but was not able to deliver… At all…
In the end the book ended up trying to bring some of that friendship and love together again, but it all just felt empty. Like he needed that ending, so he just wrote it, without really finding a proper road to get there.
My Rating
In the end i give it
2/5 stars, but i can’t really recommend it. Just read the first one again.
